Arena Structures Open Championship Turnberry Success
Arena Structures delivered an impressive array of structures at the famous Turnberry Ailsa course where golf's greatest prize was claimed by American Stewart Cink after defeating five-time winner Tom Watson in a four-hole play-off for the 138th Open.
Arena’s Projects Director, Ron Smith worked with the R&A in the year leading up to the Open, introducing fresh innovations into the event infrastructure to create welcoming environments on the windy Ayrshire coast. On site the company’s Project Manager Mark Shelley and Construction Manager Jason Stockell delivered a pristine collection of temporary event facilities.
The extensive temporary hospitality structures were designed by Arena, taking in the wishes of the event's new caterers, Sodexo, with added hardwood decking and glass and stainless steel handrails introducing attractive outdoor viewing facilities. Arena’s flair for interior design created an exclusive and luxurious facility for the R & A and the Patrons were accommodated in one of Arena’s state of the art double decker structures.
The World’s media reported on the four days of exciting golf from the temporary media hall that bristled with modern communications technology. Other structures included six entrance structures housing security staff and search equipment, on-course public catering and the official merchandise hall incorporating a blackout cinema showing footage of highlights from past Open Championships.
