Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Win for ESG – Arena Group Joint venture
October 3rd 2010 sees the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. ESG Arena JV (comprising ES Group and Arena Group), together with local partner dartindia (Spaceworkz Group), have been contracted to provide Games Overlay for 3 competition venues and 18 training venues.
The team are responsible for providing the temporary overlay for these facilities including more than 200 temporary structures, a temporary stadium to host the Rugby Sevens, 7,000 capacity seating grandstands, power, media facilities and lighting. The scope of the contract also includes maintenance during the Games and removal of the temporary overlay afterwards.
The local partnership has been set up specifically to deliver this 20million project but the intention is to develop the partnership and to deliver future projects together in India as the desire to deliver bigger and better world class events in India is very apparent. There are many opportunities in the region in the near future including the ICC Cricket World Cup, IPL and Formula 1.
Arena Structures managing director Grahame Muir comments:
“We are very proud to be associated with our partners on this truly ground-breaking project, as part of an event that will be so important for the Indian continent. This has illustrated the expanding international aspirations and capabilities of all parties.”
“Shipping 130 structures to the continent has been managed by our Operations Director Loren Johnson, who overcame huge logistical challenges of sending 24 containers to site from our UK and Dubai facilities. Ken Andrews has been our project manager on site and it’s been a great team effort; working alongside ES Group Director Jeff Burke and the team at ESG.”
