The Organising Committee for the FIFA World Club Championships, held in Abu Dhabi from 9th to 19th December 2009, entrusted Harlequin Arena Middle East to provide and manage the temporary structures, including their interior design, d飯r, scaffiolding and air conditioning throughout the tournament.
This was the largest football event ever staged in the region with eight games being played over ten days. The contract, valued at over 1 million sterling required Harlequin Arena to provide hospitality structures at two stadiums, the Mohammed Bin Zayed where the opening ceremony took place and Zayed Sports City Stadium where the final was held.
The project was completely managed and built by local structures professionals who sourced the 8000sqm of kit required. The build consisted of pristine VVIP hospitality structures with internal toilets and kitchens, state of the art media centres, a temporary Mosque, the sponsors’ village along with fan zone catering and retail facilities. A Sheika and Royal drop-off structure was built at the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium creating private entry and exit routes for the VVIP guests.
This contract has been brokered in close partnership by Arena Structures and Paul Berger, CEO of Harlequin Arena; Paul says:
“We are delighted to have been selected this prestigious contract, following extensive discussions with the Local Organising Committee. Our investments in new structures coupled with our experienced team engendered the trust in the proven ability of Harlequin Arena Middle East to offer a complete turnkey solution.
“Managing the temporary structure requirements for the FIFA World Club Championships began months in advance with full production, planning, CAD diagrams and 3D renderings, site risk assessments. The installation, complete with full interior design and fit out included the manufacture of bespoke items was achieved seamlessly by our project management and operational teams. I was delighted that our structures remained open through some very severe storms which closed a lot of local permanent facilities during the championships, which demonstrates the quality of these facilities.”
