Arena Group winning service at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

01 December 2009

The Arena Group demonstrated world class credentials supplying a range of temporary events overlay for the 2009 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals hosted at the O2 in London this November.

Arena Structures supplied three double deck structures over-looking the players practice court on the ground floor and a temporary media village on the first floor. Daniel Bluff and David Moynes split the project management responsibilities whilst Director Ron Smith ensured the ever-evolving requirements of the ATP and event sponsors were exceeded. The multi-functional double deckers were sub-divided to create offices, reception areas and luxurious lounges for the ATP along with event sponsors Barclays, South African Airways, Lacoste, RICOH and Enel. Each interior area was defined by distinctive creative designs implemented by Arena.

Martin Clark was Arena Seating’s special structures commercial director, delivering the media comms suites and courtside facilities inside the main O2 arena. Supported by joinery manager Damien Edwards he oversaw the design and manufacture of bespoke media facilities incorporating broadcast studios for the BBC and Sky, comms pods and photographers booths.
These media boxes were designed specifically to fit into the O2 arena, constructed from fire-retardant, soundproof material. Their modular nature means they can be reused (and reconfigured) for subsequent events, minimising the carbon footprint. Courtside the team installed more custom boxes with seating for photographers, players and guests.

Spaceworks, the Arena Group’s event furniture hire specialists, supplied a range of contemporary furniture for the organisers’ and sponsors’ areas.

ATP event manager Lottie Cresswell says:
“This is the first of five years hosting the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at The O2, and we have already drawn capacity crowds. It is a new look tennis crowd and the Arena Group has helped us deliver a new look tennis tournament.
“The venue has been fantastic in accommodating what has been a new style event for The O2, and we have used pretty much every area of the venue available to us. Having the experience of the Arena Group supporting us has been a great asset this year and I am delighted they are contracted for the following four years. I would say we made over 90 planning visits here (The O2) to position all the players, sponsors and media for convenient access to all areas. We have worked with Ron (Smith) and Martin (Clark) and their teams on many events, so they understand how to meet the high expectations of the organisers, sponsors and broadcasters at an event of this stature. The timescale for installing the media boxes was particularly tight, but I always had confidence that Martin and his team could achieve it, which they did of course.”
